Book Project 2009 - Yeshe De

Prayer bell outside bindery

What do you get when you combine the rapidly disappearing 1,000 year-old cultural heritage of Tibet and the innovative powers of modern Western technology? The Yeshe De Tibetan Text Preservation Project! In a remote location of Northern California, volunteers from all over the world are working together to keep this sacred Tibetan Buddhist culture alive, all the while learning how to contact the ancient wisdom it has to offer in their own lives.

Stacking and edge-dying sacred books

Included are housing, meals, and evening classes on various topics of the Buddhist teachings. A stipend of $150 per month is also provided to those who make a commitment of 90 days or more. If you are interested in joining this project, please review the guidelines and requirements below. Then, download the application (.doc) with more detailed information.

Stamping book covers

Saving a culture is not easy: it takes hard work and perseverance – but it also brings with it the satisfaction of doing something meaningful and worthwhile. You too can be a part of this historical project, helping to make the books that are donated to the future generation of Tibetan monks and nuns. But the time to act is now – if we wait much longer, there might not be anything left to preserve.
